SOUHRN

Metabolická kompenzace lidí žijících s diabetes meullitus 1. typu (DM1) se v poslední dekádě významně zlepšila, ale u většiny z nich stále nedosahuje doporučených cílů. Zlatým grálem diabetologie tak stále zůstává úplné vyléčení DM1 bud' zastavením jeho progrese v časných stadiích imunosupresivní léčbou, nebo transplantací beta buněk u dlouhotrvajícího DM1. Recentní pokroky v obou z těchto léčebných přístupů dávají lidem s DM1 naději na brzké vyléčení.

SUMMARY

Metabolic control of people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) has improved massively throughout the last decade but most of the people living with T1D still do not reach the recommended targets. Curing the disease thus still remains a holy grail of diabetes research. One option is to stop the progression of T1D in its early stages through immunosuppressive therapy, the other is to revert the longstanding T1D through beta-cell transplant. Recently, both of these approaches have made significant progress which gives people living with T1D high hopes for the future.
